The program boasts a strong partnership within the school districts in the county – Ridgewood Local Schools, River View Local Schools, Coshocton County Career Center, Coshocton County Board of MR/DD, and Coshocton City Schools. The advisory committee includes representation from the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce, Coshocton Public Library, Coshocton County Job and Family Services, American Electric Power – Coshocton Port Authority, Coshocton Campus of Central Ohio Technical College.
We are starting our fifth year of needed services for Coshocton County students. These services will include:
-
Forging relationships with local guidance counselors, administrators and teachers including a regular communication system. We see the schools as our best resource in identifying needs and recruiting our customers
-
Meeting with students and parents to discuss college opportunities and help them navigate through the process.
-
Developing up-to-date on-line information on a web site donated by the public library. Coshocton residents have an abundance of local scholarship opportunities and it will be our quest to catalog the resources and assist with the application process.
-
Hosting a college-night activity highlighting application process, financial aid and showcasing interested colleges and universities. This will allow students and parents to get a glimpse of what is available without leaving home!
-
Providing a seminar on financing a college education with a focus on purchasing college credits for students as Christmas presents. Grandparents will be the targeted population.
-
Providing FAFSA submission by participating in College Bowl Sunday.
-
Implementing a volunteer mentor program for parents and students. We realize that one paid staff member cannot do it all so we will rely on the generosity of those who have experience “hand-hold” families through the process.
-
Beginning the fundraising efforts to sustain the program after the OCAN grant period has ended.
