www.ohiocan.org/hocking Brighten Your Future lights the path to success with a trail of golden dollars - last-dollar grants that often make the difference between going to college and staying home.
"We want to make sure that every student who wants to pursue postsecondary education has that opportunity," said Charles Taylor, executive director of Brighten Your Future. "We don't want dollars to stand in the way of dreams."
They don't at Logan High School, thanks to Brighten Your Future. The organization has distributed over $920,000 in grants since 1988.
"Every applicant who needs help gets help," Taylor said.
Funding comes primarily from within the community - with consistent donations from residents, alumni, civic groups, school employees and local businesses, but many alumni of Logan High School located across the country have been loyal supporters.
"Brighten Your Future is a remarkable testament to community," Taylor said, "and to the value we place on our children."
The favor often is returned, with grant recipients turning into grant funders as they find their way in the world.
"I want to start giving back what I can when I can," one grant recipient wrote in a letter enclosed with a check. "I want to stay involved."
