Program History
The Medina City Schools Foundation college access program (MCSFcap) initiative originated in 2002 as the result of a desire to implement a new program to better serve the educational needs of the Medina City School Districts’ students.

After significant research and investigation, it was determined providing college access services would fit the vision for a new Medina City Schools Foundation program, as it would have a significant impact on a substantial percentage of the total students in the Medina City School District, as well as allow the coordination of several established programs under one integrated charter.

Program Goals and Objectives
The goal of the Medina City Schools Foundation College Access Program (MCSFcap) is to provide the opportunity for every student in the community of Medina, who has the desire and has developed the requisite skills, to obtain post-secondary education via the following initiatives:

  • Furnish direct financial support and coordinate the pursuit of external financial aid.
  • Encourage alternative approaches to post-secondary education to minimize the total cost.
  • Establish and support programs that contribute towards adequate academic and individual preparation for post-secondary education.
  • Provide college, vocational, career and financial aid information/counseling to the community.

Implementation Plan
The MCSFcap began offering college access services January 1, 2003 via the Learning Resource Center and mentoring programs. Based on the detailed schedule defined in the MCSFcap implementation plan, these services will be expanded to establish a comprehensive college access program that addresses the barriers to post-secondary education. These services will include a college/career resource center, GAP and other scholarships resources, early awareness programs, peer and intervention mentoring, tutoring, distance learning, vocational academic programs and vocational grants.
