Scholarship Central's mission is to encourage and enable residents of Muskingum County to continue their education beyond high school.
Scholarship Central, a Governor's Initiative Program, is a newly established college access program in Zanesville, Ohio designed to serve all students in Muskingum County.
Scholarship Central provides:
- Parental Advising
- Early Awareness Activities
- College Resource Center
- Financial Aid Advising
- Community Workshops to Residents of Muskingum County.
Scholarship Central also maintains a list of local scholarship opportunities both on paper and on the Community Foundation's website (www.mccf.org). Over 250 parents and students have contacted Scholarship Central for college access services this year. In addition, the program presents college access information at local high schools and middle schools, at community events and in conjunction with business leadership activities.
Scholarship Central is the recent recipient of KnowledgeWorks Foundation's coveted Thomas L. Conlan Award for Excellence in College Access. The program's innovative Scholarship Scouts initiative is a great peer-driven college access model.
Muskingum County is also a GEAR UP Lighthouse site. GEAR UP Ohio envisions every student, regardless of his or her parents’ wealth, ethnic background or geographic location, graduating from high school with the knowledge and skills he or she needs to succeed in college and the workplace—and it sees a future in which fewer students need remediation during their first year of postsecondary education.
