We know that it takes more than awareness college in order to make it to college and successfully finish a college plan. It takes some skills to in order to successfully "crack the code" and become a successful college student. Ohio's college access practitioners seek to equip students with the tools necessary to succeed in college and the workforce - from teaching and enforcing goal-setting, study skills, providing innovative programming to help sharpen algebra or English skills in order to improve test scores, to equipping families with the understanding of what those test scores mean, and plenty in between.
Here are some methods at work in Ohio:
Workshops that teach study skills, financial education, test-taking strategies, time management, critical reading, career exploration, organization, and planning skills
Summer transition programs - middle to high, high school to college, undergraduate to graduate
Tutoring programs
Supplemental course instruction to improve students' academic performance
Developmental guidance curricula
Assessments of student progress toward meeting academic standards that trigger support for struggling students
Employing PSAT/ACT/PLAN/etc to identify students' academic strengths and needs
