We know that the work of college access is not confined to the meanings of the terms themselves. College access is about ensuring that students are prepared and equipped to access the education and/or training necessary that will position them to successfully enter the workforce. This work has to do with economic development, workforce development, academic rigor and preparation, college retention, and more.
We're seeing that college access work in Ohio is
evolving and expanding to include more, and more
varied, programs and supporters based on the look and transformation of our member composition during the past year. As such, it has become necessary for OCAN to
undertake a thorough review of its membership and dues structures.
The
introspection was led over the summer by a newly formed Membership
Committee comprised of OCAN members throughout the state from each
membership category – Traditional, Associate, Affiliate, and Supporting.
Throughout the summer committee met multiple times in order to discuss
and design a membership structure that truly reflects and supports the
composition of those dedicated to college access in Ohio.
No longer will members of the Network be classified by four categories -
Traditional, Associate, Affiliate, and Supporting. Now, all members of
OCAN are members of OCAN - each with equal standing and eligibility for
benefits.
The shift affects the dues structure, as well. Previously dues were
tied to membership level; now they will be tied to the operating budget
of the member organization.

Memberships were extended at no charge until October of 2012. Now is the
time to renew membership for the remainder of the year. Applications
and payment for continued membership in OCAN are due November 11, 2011.
